India to Host First Asian
Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction
India will host the first Asian
Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction of the post-2015 era. The
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced during the 3rd UN World Conference
on Disaster Risk Reduction being held in Sendai, Japan from March 14-18. He
said the Indian government will take lead in hosting the conference in 2016 in
collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

France, Germany, Italy sign up
for China-led AIIB bank
France, Germany and Italy have
followed the UK in joining the China-sponsored Asian Infrastructure Investment
Bank. With joining of these countries, the total number of the bank’s member
states including India has gone up to 30. The three European countries followed
suit days after the UK became the first western nation to join the bank
disregarding reservations expressed by the US which raised concerns over its
transparency. The AIIB has an authorized capital of USD 100 billion and the
initial subscribed capital of USD 50 billion. India along with 26 other
countries joined the bank as its founding members when it was formally setup in
2014 by Xi Jinping. South Korea, Japan and Australia stayed away reportedly on
the advice of US. The AIIB, an international financial institution that will
provide support to infrastructure projects in Asia. The bank, expected to
operationalize by the end of 2015, will be headquartered in Beijing and headed
by a Chinese official.
Increase in induction age in
IAS, IPS, IFS for state cadre officers

has been increased from 54 to 56. The Department of Personnel and Training
(DoPT) has notified new rules for three all-India services — Indian
Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest
Service (IFS) — in this regard. As per rules, a Union Public Service Commission
(UPSC) committee is responsible for making selection to IAS, IPS and IFS from
state services. Earlier, the maximum age limit for consideration of officers
from states services into IAS, IPS and IFS was 54 years, as on January 1 of the
year for which the select list is prepared.
